Child and Youth Skill Development

Group sessions to help children and youth develop skills.

Child and Youth Skill Development is programming for children and youth that require skill building. The program assists in development, problem solving skills, and intellectual growth. This program is offered in Brooks and Medicine Hat.

 An Accessible Community-Based Program

Ages 7 to 18

The program in Brooks is open to children and youth aged 7 to 18 and in Medicine Hat children and youth aged 7 to 13.

No Fees

The program is funded by the Ministry of Children’s Services. There are no costs for participants.

No Commitment

As involvement in the program is voluntary, the child or youth or family may choose to leave services at any time.

Referral Required

Referrals to the program can be made by anyone, including self-referral.

What to Expect

Child and Youth Skill Development provides group sessions presented by facilitators that focus on skill development for children and youth. Children and youth focus on sessions that support critical thinking skills, intellectual growth, and identity development. Curriculum content and schedules are tailored based on the age and needs of participants. 

How to Access the Program

Referrals are accepted from any community member, including self-referral. If there is a referral that cannot be accepted due to programming being full, or the group is in process, the child/youth will be placed on a waitlist monitored by the Program Supervisor and will be provided service at the next available time. 

 

Exit from the program is based on the achievement of goals. Participation is voluntary and someone can stop accessing services at anytime.
